Like several other groups, including Slade and the Bay City Rollers, Smokie, as they now spell their name, have decided that, despite their success, they won't be moving down to London.
The boys all love their home town of Bradford in Yorkshire, and that's where they intend to stay!
"Having hit records has altered quite a lot of things for us," Alan Silson told me, "but no matter how successful we were, there are some things we never want to change".
"For instance, when I'm at home in Bradford, I love just catching the bus and going down town to wander round and take in the atmosphere. I'd hate to think I couldn't do that any more!"
